Olivia Rodrigo’s edgy style streak continues with her latest appearance. Joining American singer Billy Joel on stage at Madison Square Garden in New York City on August 24, the singer wore a fun outfit that perfectly encapsulated her personal style. Designed by Vivienne Westwood, the dress involved a black velvet corset top that curved to reveal her midriff. The dress’s boned bodice recalls a Victorian-style corset, though Rodrigo styled it in a contemporary way.

First, she wore a historical underwear dress as outerwear, then she paired it with a matching velvet choker and a yellow-and-orange tartan plaid skirt. Her sheer hosiery and tall black lace-up boots rounded out the theme perfectly. The 19-year-old star finished off with a fuchsia lip and wore her brown waves in a middle bun. Rodrigo performed “Deja Vu” and “Uptown Girl” with Joel, who looked classic in an all-black suit.

This isn’t the first time the Gen Z star has worked with Vivienne Westwood or endorsed the corset trend. In April, she wowed at the Grammys in a black Vivienne Westwood dress, outlining a woman’s body in pink on the front and back.

Although she sometimes goes for color (see her purple Versus gown at the 2022 Met Gala or the hot-pink Versus corset mini for the afterparty), Rodrigo often sticks to a darker palette, as she did on Aug. 2, when she stepped out in a Mirror Palais LBD. She gave the lacy minidress a dark-academia twist by styling it with white crew socks and black loafers.
