With parents like Beyoncé and JAY-Z, it’s no wonder Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir Carter are already making style stars. Tina Knowles-Lawson recently chatted with Oprah Daily about Ivy Park’s latest collection, Ivytopia, and shared how her grandchildren contribute to the brand.
“They’re a bit of a fashionista, and they’re very determined about what they like and don’t like.”
“They’re a bit of a fashionista, and they’re very determined about what they like and what they don’t like,” the businessman and fashion designer said in a July 21 interview. “When Beyoncé does the first samples, they get them, and some things they like and some things you can tell they don’t like. Kids like comfortable things. They don’t want something that’s too tight or too high around the neck. “
Considering 10-year-old Blue and 5-year-old Rumi and Sir have starred in multiple Ivy Park campaigns with their mom, it only makes sense that they’d provide their input for each collection. While Neil’s effortlessly cool style has made headlines in the past, as he’s hung out courtside in a sleek black dress or performed alongside Beyoncé at the Oscars, Rumi seems just as excited about fashion. “She has an amazing sense of style,” Knowles-Lawson says, adding that Rumi reminds her “a lot” of a young Solange Knowles.
During a recent trip to Disneyland, Knowles-Lawson recalled Rumi picking out Mickey Mouse shorts and a matching sparkly printed top for her outfit. “It actually looked pretty cool. But her sister came over and Neil was like, ‘My mom’s going to go crazy because she’s doing too much.’ And Rumi said, ‘This is my style.’ … I was impressed. She added, ‘Mickey Mouse is going to be so excited. He’s going to come up and take a picture with me.’ He’s so funny. And you know what, Mickey came and took a picture with him.”
