Serena Williams may be hitting the court for the last time at the US Open. After announcing her retirement in Vogue’s September 2022 issue, the tennis legend is preparing for what could be her final appearance at the Queens-based tournament. And he’s doing so in grand style. Williams’ US Open 2022 outfit isn’t just show-stopping on court, though she has plenty of it. It is full of meaning, and it stands as an artificial tribute to the extraordinary legacy he left behind.
Playing her first match at the 2022 US Open, Serena Williams wore a black, sheer paneled Nike dress covered in glitter, People reports. The sleek look boasts a 6-tier skirt to honor her 6 previous US Open titles — and is a fitting ensemble as she seeks a 24th Grand Slam title.
Her sneakers are just as chic. The designer chose the NikeCourt Flare 2 shoe that features 400 hand-set diamonds, his initials etched into the medial side and an ornate Swoosh. The crystal-encrusted dress, co-designed by Williams, is a nod to the dress traditionally worn by figure skaters. “Inspired by the striking competition outfits worn by figure skaters, the embellished bodice and skirt put Serena in the spotlight and give her freedom of movement,” Nike said in a statement.
Olympia Ohanian, who is known for making her own style statements, matched her mother in a shiny Nike black dress and the same beaded, braided style that Williams wore when she won her first US Open title in 1999.
