Serena Williams is officially “retiring” from tennis. On Tuesday morning, the mega-athlete announced her retirement alongside a stunning fashion moment — with her daughter, 4-year-old Olympia Ohanian, a style star herself, on the cover of Vogue’s September 2022 issue. Dressed in a sleeveless Balenciaga bodycon dress in sky-blue, Williams poses with ease and confidence. The voluminous, sweeping train extends beyond the folds of the magazine, revealing Ohanian adoringly held beneath her mother’s gown on another page. Against a picturesque beach backdrop, the tennis pro’s royal-blue Bulgari High Jewelery earrings completed the elegant look.
Styled by fashion editor Gabriela Carrefa-Johnson, the serene photo shoot features Williams in a variety of sleek, simple gowns paired with pop statement jewelry. In one striking image in the spread, the tennis champion wore a light-blue Sergio Hudson slip dress with a long, asymmetrical train, which she complemented with pearl drop earrings by Fernanda George. She also wore two different white gowns — a fitted one-shoulder Ralph Lauren Collection dress and a standout backless number with a slit by Danielle Frankel — as well as a custom crochet dress by Wells Bonner. Finally, she rounded out the spread with a colorful look, a peach-and-pink dress with side slits in Gucci’s subtle collaboration with Adidas.
Neither Williams nor Ohanian are strangers to appearing in Vogue, as this marks Williams’ fourth cover and her second for Mini Me. In 2018, at just 3 months old, Ohanian was the youngest person to receive the magazine back. In the interview accompanying this latest cover, the tennis star opens up about her retirement, shares her plans to raise her family and focus on her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures.
