The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards delivers on high-octane celebrity-style moments and tech-driven performances. For the most part, the high-adrenaline fashion and music moments (think Britney Spears handling a snake in a Kurt & Bart bra top and low-rise shorts in 2001) got it wrong, but there were a few red carpet appearances that stole the show.
First, Lizzo floated down the black carpet in a voluminous silk taffeta gown designed by Glenn Martens for Jean Paul Gaultier. She then wowed the audience with a dynamic performance delivered in a custom pink Ray Ortiz catsuit, before turning heads again in a black corset dress featuring flawless detailing on the front, sleeves and legs. Meanwhile, Lil Nas X also made a bold entrance, ditching a feather-trimmed tiered skirt in favor of a shirt and matching headpiece with Harris Reid. She later accepted multiple awards on stage, wearing a black maxi with standout metal-trimmed cutouts across the bodice.
After the ceremony, VIP attendees headed to Manhattan for an after party at Chelsea’s Fleur Room. Nicki Minaj, the lady of the moment, stunned in a champagne-colored high-slit dress by Burberry. Taylor Swift was also among those dressed to the nines, shopping the Crystal Oscar de la Renta dress she wore on the black carpet in a royal blue sweetheart-neck satin design embellished with silver metallic stars. She dialed up the sophistication of her Moschino evening look with glittery Alexander McQueen platform sandals and an ivory fur coat. Elsewhere, Sabrina Carpenter stuck to her red carpet aesthetic in a bedazzled mini dress styled with towering Valentino pumps.
Ahead, see who attended the celebration and what they wore.
