Queen Letizia’s brooch at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II

Ten days after Queen Elizabeth II’s death, Queen Letizia paid her respects to the late monarch in London in all black. The Spanish royal was among 2,000 British and European royals to join her husband King Philip VI in mourning for Queen Elizabeth II on September 19, 2022.

Arriving in London, Queen Letizia wore a black Hugo Boss dress Completed with a brooch on his chest The pearl-and-diamond brooch belonged to Queen Anne, also known as Victoria Eugenie, whose British grandmother was Queen Victoria. Queen Anne was known to respect and observe similar customs to Victoria, thereby strengthening ties between the Spanish and British crowns. This iconic piece of jewelery sat perfectly beneath the classic square-cut neckline of Letizia’s Hugo Boss number, with her hair in a low bun.

To meet the queen in state and attend the September 18 reception, Queen Letizia wore a black Carolina Herrera blouse with a simple pencil skirt. Floral embellishment on blouse collar, with balloon sleeves. To keep the look extra sophisticated, she wore her hair in a low chignon and finished off with diamond cluster earrings.

For the state funeral on Monday, September 19, Letizia wore a belted Carolina Herrera midi dress with long sleeves. She accessorized the design with a matching Giorgio Armani clutch, Manolo Blahnik pumps and black leather gloves. Playing up the dress’ streamlined silhouette, she wore her hair down, adding a headband and veil from Cherubina.
