Old Navy Tie-Belt Trench Coat I’m an editor review

Everyone needs a good trench coat in their fall wardrobe. Admittedly, I recently bought one after borrowing and not paying my mom back years ago (for the record, I’m not proud of it). But I’m happy to report that I recently purchased the Old Navy Water-Resistant Tie-Belt Trench Coat ($85), and it’s everything I wanted: chic, timeless, and versatile. Ahead, find out everything you need to know about the brand’s bestsellers before adding them to your shopping cart.

What I love about this trench coat

I made this trench in the middle of my normal size, choosing the ivory color called “Wish Bone”. After slipping it on, I knew it was a keeper. For starters, I fell in love with the length, which hits just below my knee. And there’s no shortage of stylish details, from the turtleneck and buttoned epaulettes to the button-tab cuffs and storm flap at the back.

I am a big fan of the material. Although it was too hot where I live to wear it and still is, I’m sure its smooth texture is firm enough to hold its shape in the wind but soft enough that it’ll still feel comfortable hours later. It’s also water-resistant, making it ideal for days when the weather looks questionable.

The first thing to notice about this trench coat is that it’s slightly oversized, which I like because it means it won’t feel tight over layered sweaters — and, IMO, makes it look more fashion-forward. But some buyers intentionally size up to achieve a roomier fit and find they’re “swimming in it.” The Takeaway: Order your usual size up a size up and size down for a more tailored look.

Another thing to flag is that this trench coat is really lightweight and born to be a thin layer of outerwear. Because of this, it makes a great transitional piece as the temperatures start to cool, and layering it over a warm sweater will also keep you from overheating. Nevertheless, a few reviewers “wished the material had weight.”

Who is this trench coat best for?

This trench coat is perfect for those like me who want to add a style staple to their fall wardrobe — and want a style under $100 that’s perfect for all occasions.
