With its practical separates and polished black dresses, Gani’s Joyride collection exuded the carefree Copenhagen style and joie de vivre creative director Ditte Refstrup meant. The spring 2023 edition was inspired by cycling in Denmark, on a pier decorated with colorful chalk drawings, unfolding against a sunset backdrop. “We call it Joyride because Copenhagen is the place where our hearts are,” Refstrup wrote in an official statement. “Being in the city in the summer has a feeling that I can’t quite explain, the energy pulsates, it really gets your beat going.”
The catwalk opened with a dynamic head-to-toe blue denim look, including a cropped jacket with nothing underneath and medium jeans. This is the first of a trio of denim looks to debut in collaboration with Levi’s. The ready-to-wear label has also worked with British heritage brand Barbour on a utilitarian jacket and Icelandic activewear label 66° North on a pair of coordinated jackets and sets.
Other offerings range from colorful crop tops to textured mini and midi dresses, all infused with an air of sportiness. Taking that theme a step further, models completed their daytime outfits with patterned cowboy boots and top-handle crochet bags. For the evening dresser, the brand offers some chic options, including a blazer dress in a bright shade of blue, a draped dress with shoulder cutouts in black, and a sparkly, sheer slip.
Leave it to Gani to translate current fashion trends — from restructured denim to sheer dresses — into sophisticated off-duty looks with a uniquely Scandinavian edge. What the collection lacked in consistency was made up for with the variety of options seen across models.
Ahead, check out our favorite looks from the spring 2023 collection.
