The fall 2022 season found designers in four major fashion capitals reflecting the state of the world. The result? A new set of trends — from reinvented sportswear to repurposed denim — ushers in a future where we resume our pre-pandemic lives, hopefully with the wisdom gained from the past few years.
The love affair with Y2K fashion continues, with Miu Miu’s viral low-rise miniskirt. Diesel’s denim-clad models and Lowe’s jean shoes signal a new era for timeless textiles. Elements inspired by motorcycle racing were introduced; Blazers were made to project a sense of gravitas; and lingerie-style pieces such as sheer bras and corsets were designed to look sheer. And for those of us who find a return to normal too casual, there’s no shortage of blanket silhouettes that don’t sacrifice style or comfort. Elsewhere, Thom Browne’s recreated knits, kooky oversized coats and patchwork suiting give separate business dressing a fun new twist. The designer strayed from the traditional fashion week calendar, staging her runway show in New York City on April 29 in an industrial space filled with teddy bears.
Each trend marks a new beginning after an extended period of uncertainty. A bit of an edge towards the avant-garde (see Gucci’s sporty corset and Yohji Yamamoto’s denim shirt), most of them are surprisingly wearable. Whether you want to experiment with awkward silhouettes and accessories or update your classic closet staples, fashion ideas abound.
Up front, be inspired by the new sporty silhouette; Cool denim pieces; comfortable knit ensembles; bold low-rise skirts; lazy underwear look; Sharp moto separates; and sharp blazers. Read on for the top seven runway trends of the fall season.
