Massey is on a mission to give Black Sorority more clothing options – a market that has historically been scarce. Members of the Sorority Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Sigma Gamma Roe attend events and conventions long after college, but it is easy to find the perfect outfit or suit in the specific color combination of Soriti. Fortunately, Massey, in partnership with Caspar, is changing this with just one line of clothing made for this society.
The idea came from 32-year-old Waiquasia King-Thomas, a director and buyer of day dresses who is a zeta himself. King-Thomas said in an interview with Bloomberg, “We come in a variety of shapes, sizes and curves and I understand the challenges we face when shopping.” “I know the necessity and importance of this clothing collection.”
Macy’s is available in 200 of the 500 locations as well as online, sororities will have at least five pieces per launch. The collection comes as part of a retailer’s effort to build racial diversity across the organization.
