Alexander McQueen’s pre-fall 2022 collection is a masterpiece from start to finish. Certain looks especially come from the caricature drama, which provides the sewing skills and the sensitivity of the clothing that we have come to associate with McQueen.
The first look – an off-shoulder corset dress in a vibrant shade of yellow – stands out as a brilliant re-creation of archival silhouettes. A corset with silver-metal detailing and an asymmetrical drape skirt in pastel pink is reminiscent of the vintage slip dress worn by Miley Cyrus at “Late Night with Seth Meyers” last month. Each part demonstrates Burton’s virtues and proficiency in British label house codes.
At the time of her debut, Burton Ann Catherine tapped 12 international artists to create works inspired by the collection, including November Hoibo, Beverly Semes; Bingy, Cristina de Middel, Guinevere van Sinus, Hope Gangloff, Marcia Cure, Jackie Nicholson, Jenny Juan Lille, Judas Companion, Marcella Correa and Marcia Michael. “It’s been interesting to see how creativity has evolved from different perspectives,” Burton said in a press release. “And the results that have been varied and beautiful.” Each artist chooses a look from the collection and interprets it using their preferred medium, which includes weaving, sculpture and moving pictures.
A temporary exhibition at the Alexander McQueen Store on Old Bond Street in London will feature works of art with their inspired McQueen looks. Appreciate our favorite piece up front.
